THE draw for the Quarter- finals of the 2009 / 2010 Co-operative Insurance Cup was made today, Thursday 12 November, at Drumbo Park Lisburn.

The draw, made by Gerry Armstrong, the former Northern Ireland International and Philip Strong, Area Manager with Cup sponsor, The Co-operative Insurance, will see Big Two rivals Glentoran and Linfield go head-to-head for a place in The Co-operative Insurance Cup Semi-finals.

2008/2009 winners Portadown will face IFA Championship contenders, Limavady United or Ballinamallard United. Cliftonville will face either Coleraine or Lisburn Distillery with Dungannon Swifts taking on Institute.

The Co-operative Insurance Cup Quarter-finals are played on a two-legged basis, the first leg ties taking place on Saturday 5 December followed by the second leg ties on Tuesday 15 December. The Semi-finals are one-off matches with extra-time and penalties, if required. The Co-operative Insurance Cup Final will be played on Saturday 27 March 2010.

Jack Grundie, Chairman of the IFA Premiership Management Committee commented: "This stage of The Co-operative Insurance Cup is where clubs start to believe they have a real chance of making the televised Final which is such a prestigious event in the domestic football calendar. The draw has thrown up some fascinating matches including the Big Two encounter between Glentoran and Linfield."

Former Northern Ireland legend Gerry Armstrong added, "I'm delighted to make the draw for Quarter-finals of The Co-operative Insurance Cup, the tournament has made great strides in recent years and Portadown's superb campaign last season will give all eight remaining clubs the belief that they can lift some silverware and give their supporters a day to remember at the Final in March".
