ASHFIELD Boys High School was the venue for the first ever joint Football Intercultural Volunteer Empowerment (FIVE) Workshop.
With support from the EU and Co-operation Ireland, the Irish FA's Head of Community Relations, Michael Boyd and the Football Association of Ireland's Intercultural Development Co-ordinator, Des Tomlinson delivered the workshop at the weekend to 20 football volunteers from East Belfast who plan to run the George Best Community Cup this summer. The workshop included football related anti-racism and anti-sectarian awareness training for the volunteers.
Praising the volunteers, Michael Boyd said: “As a proud East Belfast man I would like to praise all the volunteers involved in the workshop and the partners who made the training possible, namely Co-operation Ireland, the Sydenham Historical and Cultural Society and the East Belfast Titanic Festival. These volunteers have shown great vision and are a credit to East Belfast. I would also like to thank Ashfield Boys High School for their support. Ashfield is a community focused school whose support for local football is top class.”
