Northern Ireland 3 v 0 Australia
Venue: Irvinestown
Date: 23-01-2008
Northern Ireland had dominated the opening exchanges with David McDaid's lob as early as the second minute almost catching Aussie keeper David Lowery off his line. Five minutes later a clever cushioned header by Andrew Hall created an opening for Gary Thompson but the Linfield midfielder sliced his shot wide of the post.
After a series of corners the pressure finally paid off on 26 minutes as Northern Ireland opened the scoring. Seamus Sharkey rose high to head down a corner by Mark Nicell. Lowery got a hand to the ball but Aaron Haire reacted quickly to blast the ball into the roof of the net.
Australia improved after the break with midfielder Jesse Pinto catching the eye with some darting runs. With 8 minutes remaining Samuel Stewart doubled the lead with a simple tap in following good work by Sean Ferry.
One minutes later Adam McKinney completed the scoring by netting with a left foot drive from the edge of the box.
