Midfielder shares on honour of playing with her childhood heroes

Midfielder Megan Bell says it was an honour to play alongside some of her childhood heroes as she made her senior debut against Slovakia on Tuesday.

Bell played 81 minutes of the 3-1 win and helped Northern Ireland Women to their first win of the World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Linfield Ladies player was proud to make it onto the starting eleven in her first senior squad selection, she said: "It's massive and the girls were brilliant. For me it was so special because some of these girls were my childhood heroes and people I looked up to so playing alongside them was something else and making my senior debut was unbelievable."

Being only 16 didn't hinder Bell in training during the week and she praised her team mates for the welcome she received: "Coming in at the start of the week I was nervous. I was meeting a lot of new people and those who play professional football so I knew I would have to step up my game.

"The girls made me feel very welcome and congratulated me and encouraged me so the girls were brilliant."
