THE number of girls taking part in football within schools and junior clubs has been on the rise in recent years.
As a result, football is widely accepted as a sport suitable for girls and many parents are eager for their daughters to get involved.
In response to numerous phone calls and email enquiries the Irish Football Association has decided to create the "First Kicks Soccer Academy" specifically for girls aged 4 - 11 years old. Although the name might suggest that this is an elite club, Sara Booth, Women's Football Coordinator is keen to stress the opposite.
"This academy is very much based on allowing the young girls to come together in a structured environment where they will receive quality coaching from enthusiastic and qualified female coaches. The emphasis is very much on fun and skill acquisition and indeed the coaching sessions will be centred on the girls developing fundamental skills, not just soccer skills".
The first session will take place at Sportszone Finaghy on Saturday 22nd September and Alfie Wylie, the Northern Ireland Women's Coach, will be accompanied by a number of the women's international team to help celebrate the occasion.
So, if your daughter is aged between 4 - 11 years old and would like to get involved in football contact Sara Booth on 028 90669458 or email sbooth@irishfa.com to find your nearest "First Kicks Soccer Academy".
