YOUNG footballers at the Irish FA Nutty Krust Summer Soccer School at Mossley Pavilion, Newtownabbey, got the chance to showcase their skills on Monday in front of Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington.
Before the coaching session began the children also got the chance to ask the international boss some questions as well as getting advice on how to improve their skills. The children and coaches were delighted to welcome Nigel to their summer soccer school.
Lee Carroll, the Irish FA’s Head of Grassroots Football said: “It is fantastic to see our International Team Manager supporting the Nutty Krust Summer Soccer Schools. It gives the kids a great lift and hopefully this visit will help inspire them to continue and develop their football careers. I think it is also important to show that Nigel and all our international team support the work that goes on at grassroots level, as this is where the next generation of future stars is going to come from.”
Co-ordinated by the Irish FA’s Grassroots Development Officers and staffed by qualified coaches the soccer schools are the ideal way to get your children active over the summer months. The Soccer Schools, which are for boys and girls aged from six years of age, will run at venues across the country during July and August and will be attended by thousands of budding young footballers.
Nigel Worthington added: “It has been great to be here at the Irish FA Nutty Krust Summer Soccer School in Newtownabbey. With everyone having World Cup fever this summer, it is fantastic to be able to take advantage of this and the enthusiasm all the children here have for football is clear to see. I have really enjoyed helping out the other coaches today and I am sure that the Nutty Krust Summer Soccer Schools will give the children a fun and positive experience which will generate an interest to keep them involved in football for life.”
Encouraging budding young players from across the country to take part in this year’s programme, the international boss said: “I would encourage all boys and girls to go along to their local Irish FA Nutty Krust Summer Soccer School. The coaches will help you improve all aspects of your game like dribbling, control and shooting. To improve as a player it is important that you listen to the coaches on schemes like this, as they have the experience and knowledge on what is needed to make you a better player. And as well as learning new skills, you will also make new friends and have loads of fun playing football.”
