THE Irish FA’s is holding the annual Dale Farm Cup on Saturday at Belfast Playing Fields, Mallusk.
The tournament, which takes place from 11am-4pm, will see over 250 girls from 35 teams from all over Northern Ireland compete in age groups from U10 through to U16.
The 7-a-side tournament is the first in the summer football calendar for the girls teams across the province, and follows on from the successful Dale Farm Indoor Cup tournaments played throughout the winter months.
Sara Booth, the Irish FA’s Women’s Football Co-ordinator, is looking forward to yet another great event for girl’s football in Northern Ireland. She said: “"It is fantastic to have such a positive response from the women's and girls clubs in Northern Ireland to the Dale Farm Cup. The interest shown in this event this year has been great, and I am sure that the tournament will be a huge success."
Brian Beattie, Head of Marketing for Dale Farm, is delighted with the entry for this season’s tournament. He said: “The Dale Farm Cup is an excellent opportunity for some of the country’s future stars to come together and challenge themselves against other teams from around the country, and we at Dale Farm are proud to sponsor events such as this.
"Too many girls opt out of dairy at an early age, which can have detrimental effects on their development and even result in osteoporosis later in life. The Dale Farm partnership with the Irish FA is an ideal platform to highlight the importance consuming dairy products can play in helping the development of young girls.”
Dale Farm will be bringing along their ‘Milky Moo’ van and providing refreshments for the participants on the day.
