GIRL'S FOOTBALL KICKS OFF IN ST. DOMINIC'S GRAMMAR

Release Date: 21/10/2010

The Irish Football Association recently embarked on a four week after schools coaching programme at St Dominic’s Grammar School on the Falls Road.

Forty four girls attended the first session on Friday which was delivered by Irish FA staff Jackie Blyth and Lauren Moore .

PE teacher Laura McCann commented on the success of the first session, “We were delighted with the response of our pupils to this after schools activity. Based on the levels of enthusiasm and enjoyment shown by our pupils, we expect this fantastic turnout every week. Our overall aim is to get the girls involved whilst helping to promote Ladies Football in Northern Ireland and fully establishing ourselves within the competitive structure".

The coaching sessions are delivered as part of the Irish FA’s drive to increase the number of girls playing football in schools. To date over 70% of post primary schools in Northern Ireland offer girls’ football, with the majority of schools in Belfast already signed up. In addition to free coaching sessions, the Irish FA delivers a series of competitive opportunities including leagues, cup competitions and one day events.
