NI Cerebral Palsy Football
Sunday 15 November – Oscar Traynor Centre, Dublin
Republic of Ireland Junior Squad 1 v 0 Northern IrelandJunior Squad
Republic of Ireland Development Squad 3 v 1 Northern IrelandDevelopment Squad
The following match reports were written by David Doherty a member of and assistant coach to the NI Cerebral Palsy Development Squad.
In todays match I found both teams to be very competitive yet thankfully with no injuries or “handbags”.
Junior Match
In the Juniors game it was very competitive with the ball seeming to be stuck in the midfield area for long periods of the game. NI defended very well despite a defensive lapse costing them a goal.
The Republic teams performance was very similar, however, their tactical layout meant their frontline was somewhat isolated.Yet 1-0 they prevailed after the ball was stuck into the net from a corner.
Senior Match
I found the game to be more of an end-to-end affair with ROI looking more creative with some excellent crosses from the wing.
NI did put on a decent defensive performance, however more attention needed to be paid to ROI’s strength in attack. Although this was an end-to-end game NI passed the ball extremely well yet lacked clinical finishing. This changed in a flash as young Ryan Walker got beyond the last defender and finished into the corner of the net to put NI 1-0 up using his pace as his main attribute.
NI’s lack of defensive concentration would in the end prove costly as they conceded 3 quick goals just before half-time. It really was a bad day at the office for NI’s defenders in this spell as they scored an OG after a set-piece.
Final score 3-1
Overall a fantastic day of football which has been worth the long trip toDublin and I would like to think every single person who took part had fun.

Senior Squad
International Tournament – Scotland, September 2009
The Northern Ireland Cerebral Palsy Senior Squad have just returned from an exceptional showing at an International competition in Laargs, Scotland. The somewhat inexperienced squad, featuring no less than four new players, played with an attacking style that brought an impressive 12 goals in 4 games. A superb draw with Holland, who are ranked 5 in the World, set up a pulsating Final with the hostsScotland. Unfortunately, despite taking the lead, the Boys in Green lost out to a last minute winner that was cruel in the extreme.
