IFA LEVEL ONE COACHING AWARD What is the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football? This IFA Level One Award has now replaced the Junior Team Managers (JTM) Award and Teachers' Award. The Level One qualifies you to coach children and young people (6 - 16) under the supervision of a more qualified football coach. Please note any Junior Team Managers' / Teachers' Awards completed up to April 2006 will be recognized by the IFA until April 2011. A Level One Coaching Award candidate must complete 24 guided learning hours with a tutor (this includes a certified IFA Child Protection course and an IFA/ British Red Cross First Aid course). In addition to the above, each candidate must complete his / her log sheet with 6 hours’ coaching experience at their local club/school or at a CIS Licensed Mini-Soccer Centre Is it the right course for me? You could be a parent running a local junior team and are looking to improve your coaching skills. You may be a teacher wishing to pass your knowledge on to your students or you might want to add to your CV. You may see this as a stepping stone to a future career in coaching. You may be new to football and wish to improve your knowledge. This course is for you. Will it take up much of my time? This course is structured to run over a period of 30 hours (21 hours’ direct learning), normally spread over weekends and evenings. You will also be asked to perform some work in your own time (lots of guidance will be given on the course to enable you to complete this). What will I learn on the course? It is an extremely enjoyable and relaxed course. Your tutor will assist you in gaining knowledge to develop a basic understanding of safe, ethical and effective football coaching to young people. You will learn how to: · Safely organise and supervise football activities including Mini Soccer, Small Sided and Conditioned Games · Promote and establish working relationships and high standards between players, coaches, parents and officials · Understand different aspects of coaching children · Identify and adapt football activities and sessions for a variety of different age groups · Identify personal development opportunities in football including sports therapy, administration and officiating · IFA Safeguarding Children in Football course · IFA / British Red Cross Basic Football First Aid What does the assessment involve? The assessment of the IFA Level One is divided into two parts: · The internal assessment is conducted by your tutor during the course and will include both oral and written projects, assignments and assessments of your practical coaching. You will receive plenty of feedback during the course - this will prepare you for the next part. · The external assessment is conducted by an assessor who has had no input into your training and will be based on your delivery of a 15 minute practical coaching session on a topic from the Level 1 Football Practical Syllabus. Is there any practical work involved? Yes! Naturally the tutor will need players to demonstrate various skills and practices. Whilst non-participation would not bar anyone from enrolling on the course, we do need some people with a willingness to contribute practically (structured games form a large part of the course). You will need appropriate playing kit. How much is it going to cost? The cost of this course has been set at £200.00 (inc VAT). This price includes a comprehensive resource pack to cover all modules of the course, also the IFA First Aid for Football course, Child Protection Awareness course and POCVA checking.
