Keeping safe online

Irish FA and CEOP join forces

The Irish FA and the Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre are working together to raise awareness in football about staying safe online. The CEOP Centre is part of the UK police, set up to tackle the sexual exploitation of children and aims to educate children, young people and their parents/guardians, to understand the risks they may face online and what they can do to empower themselves to stay safe. They also track, locate and hold child sexual offenders to account.

Football uses the internet to communicate to coaches, volunteers, officials, medics, club Child Welfare Officers, players, parents/guardians and fans. We all need to understand how we can make use of this technology appropriately and CEOP’s education programme, Thinkuknow, will help to do that.

·         Children and young people need to understand the risks they may face in an environment they may otherwise think of as being completely safe

·         Coaches, volunteers, referees, medics and club Child Welfare Officers need to understand how this technology can impact on their roles

·         Parents/guardians need to understand how they can help to keep their children safer online
