THE CO-OPERATIVE INSURANCE CUP

THE draw for Round Two of the 2010 / 2011 Co-operative Insurance Cup was made today with the introduction of the IFA Premiership clubs into the new look straight knock-out format.

The 12 IFA Premiership clubs were joined in the draw by the 10 IFA Championship 1 and Championship 2 sides that negotiated their difficult Round One ties and the 10 clubs awarded byes in Round One. 

 

The draw made by Irish League Legend, Chris Morgan and Harry Fitzpatrick, Financial Adviser with The Co-operative Insurance will see 2009/2010 winners Glentoran taking on Queen’s University, with beaten finalists Coleraine facing a derby match against Glebe Rangers.

 

IFA Championship 2 sides Killymoon Rangers and Warrenpoint Town will face daunting ties against Linfield and Crusaders, respectively. Cliftonville will take on Larne, Glenavon host Portstewart with Banbridge Town facing Ballymena United. Lisburn Distillery face a trip to Armagh City with Newry City hosting H&W Welders.

 

Knockbreda will play Portadown, Dungannon Swifts face a trip to Dergview with Tobermore United taking on Donegal Celtic. Ards will play Moyola Park with Sports & Leisure hosting Institute. In two all IFA Championship ties Carrick Rangers will play Bangor with Loughgall hosting Ballyclare Comrades.

 

Harry Fitzpatrick, Financial Adviser for The Co-operative Insurance, said: “The tenth consecutive year of our sponsorship kicked off with some really exciting and high scoring Round One matches and standard of football that reflects the on-going improvements in the domestic game.

 

“The new straight knock-out format has been embraced by competing clubs and their supporters, and with today’s introduction of the IFA Premiership clubs we are anticipating this season’s Co-operative Insurance Cup to be the most thrilling and action-packed League Cup campaign to date.”

 

Hugh Wade, Chairman of the IFA Premiership Management Committee, said: “The Co-operative Insurance Cup is a great competition that has been made even better with the introduction of knock-out games on a Saturday.  The clubs have really embraced this format which should provide plenty of exciting games in the weeks and months ahead.  With many teams this season feeling that they are capable of beating anyone on their day, this season’s Co-operative Insurance Cup looks set to be the most open in recent seasons.”

 

The Co-operative Insurance Cup Round Three matches will be played on Saturday 23rd October with Round Four ties taking placing on Saturday 4th December. The Semi-Finals will be played on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd February with The Co-operative Insurance Cup Final scheduled to take place on Saturday 2nd April.
