Sport NI Stadia Safety Programme
Three phases of this Sport NI funding programme have been rolled out over the past 3 years and a fourth phase is currently being administered.
In previous phases this programme was open to all clubs in the IFA Premiership however due to the recent implementation of the Guide to Safety of Sports (NI) Order, this programme is now open only to designated grounds.
In the first three phases of this programme, the available funding per project was £800,000 (85% of total project costs). The IFA have made a commitment to support 10% of total project costs for each successful football club via the HatTrick Investment Programme. To date there have been 9 successful applications from football clubs.
In the first phase of the project Ballymena United FC, Cliftonville FC and Portadown FC had projects approved.
Ballymena United FC completed their control tower improvements in April 2007 and the other more sizeable projects for spectator accommodations, toilets, first aid facilities and a control room at Cliftonville FC and Portadown FC were completed in October 2008.

Both Crusaders FC and Donegal Celtic FC were successful in securing funding from phase II of this programme. Work at Donegal Celtic FC included two fully seated spectator stands with toilet facilities, first aid and a new control tower, and the project was completed in August 2009. The project at Crusaders FC is currently at the design stage.
Applications for Phase III of the project opened in June 2007 and four projects (Glenavon FC, Newry City FC, Institute FC and Ballymena Utd FC) were successful in the first stage of the assessment process. The Association is continuing to assist these projects with HatTrick funding.
Of these four projects, work on-site on the Warden Street Stand at Ballymena Showgrounds commenced in January 2010. A complete redevelopment of this stand is expected to be complete by August 2010.
Similarly, work on a new spectator stand at Institute FC is scheduled to commence over the summer months.
Sport NI are currently undertaking assessments and final approvals for the fourth phase of this programme. The maxiumum award for this phase is £1,000,000.
Eligible costs under the Stadia Safety programme are spectator accommodation (stands), sanitary facilities and access/egress equipment (turnstiles, CCTV and control point etc).
