UEFA Mini Pitch Project
The Association has availed of UEFA funding to install a series of mini pitches (250 to 1000 square meters in size). UEFA distributed a list of approved suppliers and Agorespace (France) and their agent in the UK, Playdale Playgrounds Ltd were approved as the preferred supplier.
It was agreed that in order to support the Association’s Grassroots Programme that these councils be invited to partner the Association in the projects.
Thirteen Councils took up the offer, each council being allocated £25,000 in funding with the remaining costs to be met by the council.
A number of pitches are now complete at:
Greenisland, Carrickfergus
Craigyhill, Larne
Belvoir Activity Centre, Castlereagh
Ballyhornan, Downpatrick
Dungiven, Limavady
Grove Activity Centre, Lisburn
Brownlow, Craigavon
Neilsbrook, Antrim
All pitches have been officially opened by either the IFA President, Chief Executive or National Team Manager Nigel Worthington and the remaining pitches are due to be complete by the summer of 2008. Upon completion a total of 21 mini-pitches will have been installed with some councils installing up to three pitches.
The councils and grassroots development officers will continue to work together to manage and maintain the facilities.
